London headquartered specialty insurance and reinsurance firm Beazley has promoted Ellie Horner to the role of Group Head of Ceded Reinsurance, filling the position from within as its previous holder William Mills has departed to Allianz Global Corporate & Specialty (AGCS).

Ellie Horner has worked at Beazley since early 2020 as a Ceded Reinsurance Manager, playing a key role in reinsurance purchasing decisions and strategy at the company.

William Mills was the Group Head of Ceded Reinsurance and Third Party Capital at Beazley, but departed and has now begun his new position at Allianz AGCS this week, where he has become Global Head of Reinsurance, based in London for the firm.

Beazley has filled part of the gap left by Mills departure through the promotion of Horner as Group Head of Ceded Reinsurance, while also having been in the market looking for a new third-party capital leader to join the firm as well, with the roles separated going forwards.

The new Head of Third Party Capital role at Beazley had been listed on our Jobs Board, but appears to have now been filled, we understand.

Horner has worked in insurance and reinsurance in the London market for nearing two decades.

Horner’s career began at London market underwriting firm Wellington as an underwriting assistant, before moving to consultancy Deloitte for a time.

Horner then spent almost 13 years working at broker Aon with a focus on US casualty treaty reinsurance broking, before joining Beazley’s reinsurance buying team.
