Personal finance website Banked has recently introduced a range of guides tailored for young people embarking on their tertiary education journey. These resources, freely accessible, offer guidance on managing finances, including advice on bank accounts and insurance.

The newly released guides cover a variety of topics. They cater to both domestic and international students in New Zealand, aiming to support those with limited financial resources.

Student guide to getting a laptop – this guide delves into cost-saving strategies for laptop purchases, including information about long-term laptop loan schemes provided by certain universities and recommendations from NZ universities.
Best student bank accounts – an analysis of various student bank accounts available to domestic and international students. The guide explores the benefits of these accounts, such as interest-free overdraft facilities.
Student health and travel insurance – focused on international students in New Zealand, this guide offers a detailed overview of health and travel insurance options, including policy coverage and costs.
Student car insurance – this resource provides comprehensive information on car insurance for students, including coverage details, money-saving tips, and cost comparisons.
Student contents insurance – aimed at students living in residence halls or shared accommodations, this guide discusses contents insurance, ways to economize, and the possibility of existing coverage under a parent’s insurance policy.

“Tertiary education can be an exciting time for young people, but parts of it can also be stressful and students need as much support as they can get — especially when it comes to managing their finances,” said Kevin McHugh, head of publishing at Banked. “That’s why we produced these comprehensively researched guides to help students make the right decisions with their money.”
