AXIS signs Armed Forces Covenant in the UK

AXIS Capital Holdings Limited has become a signatory to the Armed Forces Covenant, which aims to ensure members of the UK armed forces community have access to products, services and employment opportunities equal to any other citizen in the UK.

Backed by the UK government, the Covenant encourages businesses and organizations to make written, public pledges outlining specific actions they will undertake to support and improve the opportunities for current members of the armed forces, veterans, and their families.

As part of its commitment, AXIS has pledged to:

Take steps to ensure that our recruitment process is such that veterans and their families are given fair and equal opportunity to apply for roles, and without preconceptionEnsure our HR policies are designed to recognize the commitment that reservists have to honor as part of their military serviceRaise awareness of the opportunity that Armed Forces reservists, veterans, and their families can offer AXIS, both through their extended skillsets and their focus on delivery.

“In recognition of the valuable skills and experience that serving military personnel, veterans, and their families bring to the workplace and wider society, in addition to their commitment and service to their countries, on behalf of AXIS, I am proud to become a signatory to the Armed Forces Covenant,” said Vince Tizzio, AXIS CEO. “In our pledges, we aim to strengthen the support we provide to our colleagues who are also serving members of the armed forces, veterans and family members through inclusive HR strategies that recognize their important miliary commitments and help AXIS to attract a more diverse and multiskilled team globally.”

“When an organization commits to signing the Armed Forces Covenant it speaks volumes about the value they attach to the skills, experience and character that members of the Armed Forces community can bring to their organization,” commented Colonel (Retired) Peter Germain, Chief Executive, Greater London Reserve Forces’ and Cadets’ Association. “Thank you to AXIS for making the first steps in your decision to partner with Defense, and I wish all at AXIS the very best in their journey on the Employer Recognition Scheme.”

Mark Gregory, Head of Global Markets, AXIS, commented: “Signing of the Armed Forces Covenant is part of a long-term commitment at AXIS to support and encourage defense personnel to build successful careers at AXIS, fully supported by the AXIS Veterans Employee Resource Group in partnership with leadership, HR and the wider business. Our pledges demonstrate our support for, and focus on, attracting and retaining high-quality talent here in the UK.”

Recent measures by AXIS to help to attract and retain high-quality personnel with a military background have included reviewing our recruitment and HR processes to ensure they are supportive, investing in events and facilitating work placements through the Lloyd’s Military Network’s work placement program. In recognition of this progress, AXIS was awarded a bronze award by the UK government’s Employer Recognition Scheme in July 2023. In the United States, AXIS is developing links with the Employers Support of the Guard and Reserve Support program where employers can recognize the value of colleagues that have ongoing military service.
