AXA XL increases footprint in region with new HK leader

AXA XL, the property and casualty insurance and specialty risk division of AXA, has announced the appointment of Herbert Cheung as client distribution leader, Hong Kong, effective 30 May.

Cheung has extensive industry knowledge, most recently having held the position of head of business development, North Asia at Starr Insurance (Asia). Before that, he was head of market management, Hong Kong and Greater China at Allianz Global Corporate & Specialty. He also spent 10 years holding a variety of positions at Chubb Specialty Insurance.

In his new role, Cheung will enhance client engagement and broker management and define the distribution strategy in Hong Kong. He reports to Jamie Chambers, Hong Kong country manager.

“In these challenging times, our clients and brokers are looking for sustainable partners who are going to be around for the long term. That’s why deepening relationships while continuing to offer exceptional service … is more important than ever,” Chambers said. “With more than 20 years of expertise in the global insurance market in both broking and underwriting, I have no doubt that Herbert will successfully lead the business in Hong Kong as we work to increase our footprint in new segments and geographies across Asia.”

Cheung is fluent in English, Cantonese and Mandarin and holds a BA in economics from Carleton University in Canada.
