AXA XL has announced significant changes to its leadership structure for Canada, appointing James Lee (pictured left) as head of client & distribution and Alex Barker (pictured right) as chief underwriting officer for large commercial. Additionally, Lee will serve as chief agent for AXA XL Canada.

In their new roles for the Canada unit, Lee will report to Matt O’Malley, chief client & distribution Officer, Americas, while Barker will report to Americas large commercial head Donna Nadeau.

“At the heart of our strategy is the relentless pursuit of our clients’ growth,” O’Malley declared. “We are reshaping our organizational structure to place an even stronger emphasis on the needs of our clients, and the roles assumed by Alex and James are pivotal in driving this client-centric vision forward.

“Alex and James are exceptionally well-equipped to deliver tailored solutions that go beyond conventional insurance offerings, ensuring we bring tangible value to our clients.”

Lee will focus on building strong relationships with clients and distribution partners across AXA XL’s product lines to enhance client experiences and deepen engagement. Barker, meanwhile, will manage all large commercial underwriting activities in Canada, leveraging nearly 20 years of experience in underwriting and brokerage. Since joining AXA XL in 2009, he has led the aviation business and most recently held the position of specialty insurance head.
