AXA XL, the property & casualty and specialty risk division of global insurer AXA, has appointed Adias Gerbaud as chief underwriting officer for APAC & Europe and XL Insurance Company SE (XLICSE). Her predecessor, Etienne Champion, is assuming the role of P&C commercial lines group CUO at AXA Group.

Most recently chief operating officer for APAC & Europe and XLICSE, Gerbaud will be in charge of developing core underwriting strategies, optimising product offerings, and driving profitability in Europe, Asia, and Australia. She has been with AXA XL since 2007.

Commenting on the appointment, which is subject to regulatory approvals, AXA XL APAC & Europe chief executive Xavier Veyry said in a release: “I’m delighted that Adias is taking on the role of chief underwriting officer for APAC & Europe.

“As a senior insurance leader who spent most of her 16-year tenure at AXA XL in underwriting, she is ideally positioned to lead our business unit’s underwriting community at a time when we are looking to grow.”

The CEO went on to highlight the fact that Gerbaud was hired from within.

“I am especially pleased that we have been able to fill this position internally,” he said. “This is a testament to the talent we have within AXA XL and the opportunities available for advancement across the division and, more widely, across AXA.”
