The property & casualty and specialty risk division of international insurer AXA has appointed its first-ever global chief underwriting officer for specialty.

The newly created role at AXA XL will be assumed by Anne Marie Elder – currently global CUO for marine – on April 1. Her wider remit will span AXA XL’s marine, aerospace, and specialty niche portfolios.

“Under Anne Marie’s leadership, this new structure will allow us to leverage the synergies between these portfolios, driving better alignment among those product lines and strengthening the size of our specialty business,” global CUO Libby Benet said in a release.

“Anne Marie brings a wealth of market knowledge, insight, and technical expertise gained from over 30 years in the insurance industry. Her underwriting management skills and strong leadership will be invaluable in helping us achieve our global growth ambitions and further enhance our offering to clients in the specialty market.”

Elder’s credentials include time spent at The Hartford, Allianz, and CNA Insurance. Based in Connecticut, she has been with the business since 2011.
