James Hillman (pictured) is making the switch to Aviva Plc later this year to take on the role of chief risk officer. At present, Hillman serves as Scottish Widows chief financial officer and Lloyds Banking Group’s finance director for insurance, pensions, and investments.

“Aviva is a brilliant business with clear momentum,” the EY alumnus said in a release. “The opportunity to lead the risk function at this exciting time for the company was one I couldn’t turn down. I look forward to working with Amanda and the wider team.”

Group chief executive Amanda Blanc called the incoming CRO “a fantastic addition” to the firm.

“He is a highly experienced leader with a strong track record in financial services and regulated businesses,” she noted. “As CRO, James will play a crucial role as we continue to grow, manage risk effectively, and deliver for our customers.”

The announced appointment is subject to approval by the Prudential Regulation Authority and the Financial Conduct Authority. Stephen Gould, who currently acts as interim chief risk officer, will continue to do so until Hillman’s arrival, the date of which was not specified.
