Aviva Canada is taking a proactive stance against climate change and biodiversity loss as it celebrates the second year of its Climate Day initiative.

This year, the insurer has partnered with Tree Canada to organize various volunteer opportunities for over 2,000 employees, including activities such as tree planting, native shrub cultivation, and invasive species removal.

Tree Canada is a national non-profit organization that focuses on planting and nurturing trees in both rural and urban environments.

“Tackling climate change is a collective effort that requires all of us,” said Aviva Canada CEO Jason Storah. “We’re supporting customers, businesses, and society to build a better tomorrow. Aviva Canada’s annual Climate Day is one of the ways we put words into action, do what’s right, and make a difference in local communities where we have a presence.”

To get more individuals and organizations involved in climate action, Aviva Canada has also invited some of its customers and broker partners to join this year’s volunteer activities.

The company also introduced a six-month pilot program called Trees for Rental for its personal lines customers in Ontario.

As part of this initiative, customers who indicate that they do not require a rental car following an insurance claim will have 10 trees planted on their behalf through Tree Canada’s National Greening Program.

For last year’s Climate Day celebration, Aviva Canada employees participated in tree planting and shoreline cleanups, among other activities. They also got the opportunity to learn more about topics on sustainability, including how organic waste is processed and the benefits of having honeybees in the ecosystem.
