Auto insurers offer Ontario customers anti-theft technology

Auto insurance providers have started taking proactive steps to address the rising number of stolen vehicles in Canada, with two Aviva-owned companies offering high-risk customers free installation of anti-theft technology.

Amid increasing reports of vehicle theft, Aviva Insurance and Traders General Insurance Company have partnered with Tag, a leading North American vehicle tracking and recovery system, to protect Ontario customers who own vehicles with the highest unrecovered theft rates.

Aviva’s offer provides a theft recovery system valued at $400 at no cost to eligible customers with personal auto insurance policies under Aviva Insurance Company of Canada or Traders General Insurance Company.

According to comparison website RATESDOTCA, the Tag anti-theft technology uses electronic identification to track vehicles. This signal will remain active even if a thief breaks the vehicle’s cellular antenna or cuts its internal wires, unlike the more common GPS tracking systems.

To qualify for the free installation, customers must drive a high-risk vehicle model and live in a designated theft hotspot+.

The offer currently applies to insured customers who drive the following vehicle models, although the list may change as Aviva reviews its data:

Lexus RX 350
Land Rover Range Rover
Jeep Grand Cherokee
Toyota Highlander
Honda CRV
Ford F-150
Dodge Ram 1500

Eligible customers can get the Tag anti-theft system installed at their local Speedy Glass auto shop by booking an appointment before July 1, 2023. They must have the offer letter and a valid Aviva pink slip to complete the installation, which also comes with a five-year warranty.Top of Form

Recent statistics from the Insurance Bureau of Canada show that a vehicle is stolen every six minutes across the country, while a January CTV News story revealed that Toronto police received 453 vehicle theft reports during the first two weeks of 2023, indicating a 48% increase over the same period last year.
