Risk capital and reinsurance solutions broker Augment Risk has launched a dedicated insurance-linked securities (ILS) offering, as it looks to break into the market for matching insurance risk with institutional capital.

The company has hired Thad Hall to lead this new offering as Partner, Head of ILS Solutions at Augment Risk.

Hall was most recently employed at Ledger Investing, the tech company that connects insurance risk with capital markets capacity and investors through its platform.

Augment Risk is demonstrating a “commitment to innovation and excellence in the reinsurance brokerage sector” through this new launch, Joe Zuk, Partner at Altamont Capital Partners, a key backer of Augment, explained in a Linkedin post about the launch.

“Under the visionary leadership of Thad Hall, Augment will set new benchmarks and open doors to unparalleled opportunities in accessing private institutional capital,” Zuk explained.

Hall began his career at US insurer Travelers, working in corporate finance and then moved to AXA XL where he worked as a VP of Alternative Investments for 11 years.

He then moved to work at a sharing economy focused insurtech named Y-Risk, which is now part of The Hartford, where he stayed for over 4 years.

Hall joined Ledger Investing in 2020 and spent over 3 years working at the ILS focused insurtech as a Managing Director.

Augment Risk has already demonstrated its appetite to leverage risk capital in innovative ways for its clients and, as a reinsurance broker, that really isn’t possible today without access to the capital markets and a dedicated focus on cultivating institutional investor relationships as a source of reinsurance capital.
