ANZIIF gears up for 17th annual Australian Liability Conference

The Australian and New Zealand Institute of Insurance and Finance (ANZIIF) has announced that its annual Australian Liability Conference will take place again this year, marking the 17th edition of the event.

Scheduled for Oct. 30 at the Hilton Sydney, the conference will provide industry professionals with updates on key liability trends and risks.

Presentations will address AI’s impact on liability, including deepfakes and other emerging technologies.

The following industry experts have been confirmed as speakers:

Donna Niblock, assistant vice president, crisis management and Victorian branch manager, Liberty Specialty Markets
Estelle Pearson, director, Finity Consulting
Nicholas Zambetti, senior claims executive, Gen Re

ANZIIF CEO Katrina Shanks emphasised the value of the event, saying: “Staying up to date on the latest industry developments is crucial to ensure the best possible service is being provided to customers.”

Before holding the annual Australian Liability Conference, ANZIIF will host this year’s Reinsurance Rendezvous.

ANZIIF’s 2024 Reinsurance Rendezvous

This month, ANZIIF has released the agenda for its 2024 Reinsurance Rendezvous, set to take place from Oct. 14-16 at Rydges Resort in Hunter Valley, New South Wales.

A mock trial will examine concussion in sport, with John Edmond, chairman at Gilchrist Connell, serving as judge. Barristers Teni Berberian and Callan O’Neill will participate, providing a legal perspective on concussion-related claims.

The implications of AI for the insurance industry will also be a focal point. A panel featuring Alex Taylor, global head of emerging technology at QBE Ventures, and Omid Karr, executive manager of advanced analytics at IAG, will discuss how AI is transforming risk assessment and business operations.

Rade Musulin, principal at Finity, will lead a session on climate change risks, focusing on how the insurance sector is adapting to the transition toward decarbonisation and the broader economic impacts of climate change.

ANZIIF’s 2024 Claims Convention with AICLA

In addition to the two events, ANZIIF – in partnership with the Australasian Institute of Chartered Loss Adjusters (AICLA) – will host the 2024 AICLA/ANZIIF Claims Convention on Sept. 26 at the Sofitel Sydney Wentworth.

The event will explore critical topics under the theme “Claims Under the Microscope – Driving Better Outcomes.”

Speakers include Dr Daniel Mulino, chair of the Standing Committee on Economics, and Emma Curtis, lead ombudsman for insurance at the Australian Financial Complaints Authority (AFCA).

The event is designed to foster knowledge-sharing and improve claims management processes across the industry.
