ALRC to host webinar on financial laws renovation

14 November 2022

The Australian Law Reform Commission (ALRC) will host a webinar on Wednesday on proposals to develop more “user-friendly” legislation and regulation covering financial services.

Submissions are due by November 30 on the proposals outlined in the ALRC second interim report, released as part of a three-year review to reduce complexity in financial services legislation.

The ALRC says the reforms should offer “considerable benefits to consumers, industry, and regulated entities with a shorter, clearer, and more navigable legal framework that should significantly reduce compliance costs”.

The seminar will also preview key questions to be examined in the next interim report, which will focus on how Chapter 7 of the Corporations Act could be restructured or reframed to simplify the law.

ALRC Special Counsel Andrew Godwin will chair the seminar and the panel will include Principle Legal Officer Christopher Ash, Legal Officer Cindy Davies and Senior Legal Officer William Isdale.

The one-hour event will begin at 1pm AEDT. More details are available here.
