Allianz Asia bolsters legal and compliance arm
Allianz Asia has bolstered its legal and compliance arm, with the insurer announcing the hiring of Gareth Lang as regional head of legal and compliance. He will start in this role on June 12.
In this role, Lang will manage and advise all aspects of legal, regulatory, and compliance affairs of Allianz Global Corporate & Specialty (AGCS) Asia Pacific to ensure the protection of the firm’s legal rights. He will also be central to further developing the Allianz Asia business in compliance with laws and regulations.
From Aon to AGCS
Lang is a legal expert with over 15 years of experience in law firms. He also held various in-house positions across a range of industries, mostly in insurance and reinsurance across all lines of business. Lang joins from Aon, where he most recently held the post of reinsurance counsel for APAC and head of litigation in Asia.
In his previous role, Lang led and coordinated the legal function of Aon’s APAC reinsurance solutions, as well as advising on a range of legal, regulatory, and privacy matters. He was also responsible for the management and resolution of errors and omissions and other contentious matters across Aon in Asia.
Before his role at Aon, Lang was a foreign qualified lawyer at Kennedys, the law firm. In this capacity, he worked in the Singapore aviation team and was responsible for managing contentious matters, both international and domestic, within the APAC region.
Lang is the latest in Allianz’s new appointments. A few days ago the insurer named Gordon Browne as global head of specialty, with his posting effective in April.
