Ahoy! expands to California

Digital boat insurance MGA Ahoy! has announced that its coverage is now available to boaters in California.

One of the largest boating markets in the US with more than 700,000 registered boaters and hundreds of miles of coastlines, rivers and lakes, California represents a significant expansion of Ahoy!’s coverage area.

Legacy insurance companies tend to bundle boat insurance with other insurance offerings. Ahoy!’s sole focus is on boat insurance, using technology to protect vessels and help boaters avoid mishaps. Ahoy! customers receive an onboard smart boat kit in addition to a customized insurance policy that works alongside a proprietary mobile app, which uses telemetry to help boaters reduce risk and prevent damage or injury. With California’s drought worsening and water levels declining, the app will alert boaters to dangerous areas in lakes and dams that were historically safe for boats.

“We are excited to expand into California, a state I called home for years,” said Amit Nesenbaum, co-founder and CEO of Ahoy! “As a destination for boaters nationally, not just for its coastlines, but for its unparalleled rivers and lakes, California is a critical state for Ahoy!’s growth. Our mission is to improve the core parts of the boating experience, protecting both boats and boaters, which has become increasingly important with the rate of boating accidents in California rising. We’re dedicated to expanding our offering to make specialized insurance more accessible, ensuring better protection and enhancing the on-the-water experience.”

Ahoy!’s insurance coverage is currently available directly and through agents to boat owners in 15 states, with plans to expand across the US in the coming months.
