Andrew Bernstein, the CEO of specialist insurance-linked securities (ILS) and reinsurance investment manager Aeolus Capital Management Ltd., will become the Head of Portfolio Management at the firm, as co-head Evan Winters is to depart at the end of this year.

Bernstein and Winters were both co-heads of portfolio management, but with the long-standing employee Winters now leaving the firm, the most senior responsibility for ILS portfolio management is handed to the Aeolus CEO.

Winters, who has been part of the Aeolus Capital Management team for more than 14 years, will depart the firm on December 31st, which of course means he will be active for the company through the all-important year-end renewals.

He has held leadership roles in Aeolus’ modeling and portfolio management functions in his time at the company and having relocated to the United States in late 2023, he will now complete his transition at the end of 2024 to pursue personal interests full-time, the company explained.

Bernstein commented on Winters departure, “All of us at Aeolus want to thank Evan for his years of service and numerous contributions to our shared success. We will miss his leadership and partnership but fully support his decision and are pleased he is staying on through the end of the year to complete a smooth transition.

“We are fortunate to have a deep bench of underwriting talent and are confident that we will continue to deliver excellent service to all our business partners.”

Winters added, “It has been a pleasure and privilege to work at Aeolus with such talented colleagues. I believe our team is best-in-class and I am confident that they will continue to dedicate themselves to providing innovative solutions and superior service to cedants, brokers and investors.”
