Actuaries Institute celebrates former president’s Order of Australia recognition

The Actuaries Institute has welcomed Nicolette Rubinsztein’s (pictured) appointment as a Member of the Order of Australia (AM) for her considerable contributions to the business, finance, and commerce sectors.

This recognition underscores Rubinsztein’s influence in superannuation and retirement policy, as well as her engagement with gender equality and climate change issues. She is also known for championing women in STEM and advocating for female leadership in the business world.

Rubinsztein served as president of the Actuaries Institute in 2019 and served on the governing council for five years.

Her presidency emphasised “Gender Diversity in the Actuarial Profession,” focusing on enhancing STEM outcomes for female students. She actively participated in the institute’s Retirement Incomes Working Group and the Public Policy Council Committee.

“Much of my career and passion has centred around enhancing retirement strategies for Australians while also addressing crucial issues such as equality and climate change,” Rubinsztein said. “I am humbled to have made a difference to these important issues and receive this recognition for it.”

A mother of three, Rubinsztein is a vocal supporter of working mothers. Her book, “Not Guilty – 7 Strategies for Successful Career Mums,” offers insights on how women can apply business strategies to balance career and family life.

In 2014, Women’s Agenda named her one of Australia’s most powerful part-time workers for her efforts in advancing diversity in finance.

Rubinsztein holds non-executive director positions on several boards, including UniSuper, Zurich Australia, CBHS Health Fund, and Greenpeace Australia Pacific. She has received numerous accolades for her work in superannuation policy, such as an ASFA Lifetime Membership, an ASFA Distinguished Service Award, and the inaugural Financial Services Council Industry Excellence Award.
