Acrisure Re hires experienced ILS investor James Turner from Railpen

Acrisure Re, the reinsurance broking unit of the Acrisure group, has hired former Railway Pension Investments Limited (RPMI Railpen) employee James Turner as a Vice President within its Corporate Advisory & Solutions unit, Artemis has learned.

Turner had been an Investment Manager at the railway employees pension fund since 2019.

His role there saw him occupying a sector specialist position with a focus on insurance-linked securities (ILS), as well as some other private market investments.

Now, Acrisure Re has hired Turner to a group that has a capital market focus, including related to ILS and capital raising initiatives.

At Acrisure Re, Turner will work in the team that provides strategic advisory, capital raising and ILS, legacy solutions, M&A and start-up related services.

Turner began his career at Towers Watson as an actuarial intern, before taking on a role as a consultant at Willis Towers Watson (WTW) with a particular focus on insurance-linked securities (ILS) investments and ILS funds.

Turner worked as an Investment Consultant at WTW for over six years, researching and advising investment clients on hedge fund and related strategies, with insurance-linked strategies (ILS) a key area of focus.

He joined RPMI Railpen, a pension that had been investing in ILS since 2017, as an Investment Manager at the end of October 2019.

At Railpen, Turner originated, structured and executed investments in the private markets and insurance-linked securities (ILS) space.

His valuable experience on the investor side, as well as his background as an investment consultant, will be particularly beneficial to Acrisure Re as it expands this advisory side of its business.
