Hello, I’m currently a 28F and and struggling to understand a few things. I try to keep up with my finances. I currently have a 401k and 457B, but I am very confused on whole vs. term. I have spoken with an insurance agent and I have gotten frustrated. He keeps telling me that I need term-life insurance, even though I am single, no kids, and do not plan to ever have a family. (Yes, I know I am still young, but I also know what I want, respectfully.)

I currently have a 25k whole life policy that I got back in 2019. I have been paying $24/month, so I can certainly handle that. I do not really want to let that go, but after seeing so many conflicting views on it, it has got me questioning whether I am making a wise decision.

Here is what I want the money for: I want to be certain that I have enough to pay for everything for my funeral. I don’t want anything coming out of anyone else’s pocket. As far as debts, I do have student debts, but I think it’s safe to say family won’t feel the wrath of those when I am gone.

I was quoted $20/month for a 500k term-life. This seems like a very good deal, but will it have the same benefit if I was to go before my parents/sibling as it would for a spouse/child? My parents/siblings still get that money if I put them as a beneficiary, correct?

I know, I know – “speak to a professional instead of Reddit”, but before I find a different professional, I wanted to see if anyone here has personal experience/could guide me. I’m sorry if I sound all over the place, but I am not very educated on this matter.
