The war in Ukraine, hangover from the pandemic and sluggish markets have reduced the number of billionaires worldwide this year in Forbes’ 36th annual ranking of the richest people in the world. With 87 fewer this year, their count is down to 2,668, and their collective $12.7 trillion worth is down by $400 billion since 2021.

ThinkAdvisor has again sorted through the Forbes list to find the 17 youngest members of this super-wealthy group. To no one’s surprise, the richest young billionaire of 2021, Sam Bankman-Fried, is absent this year.

The Forbes wealth-tracking platform provides ongoing updates of the net worth and ranking of each individual who researchers confirm is a billionaire. The value of each person’s public holdings is updated every five minutes when stock markets are open.

The net worth of those whose fortunes are significantly tied to private companies is updated once a day.

If an individual owns a stake in a private company that accounts for 20% or more of his or her net worth, the company’s value is adjusted according to an industry- or region-specific market index provided by FactSet Research Systems when available.
