Signed up for a policy a month ago and I still have no idea if I’m covered or not.

About a month ago (late September) I contacted an agent for Prudential for a $200,000 policy. He asked a few typical questions, then asked me about my medications. I told him I was taking Truvada, he asked what the medication was for and I told him I was taking it as PrEP to prevent HIV. He looks the drug up and starts asking me if I’m HIV+ and I tell him no. He then asks me if I have been diagnosed with AIDS and I tell him no. He basically asked me some variation of those 2 questions for a few minutes but I made it clear to him that I’m negative.

He submits my application and they take the initial payment of $28 out of my account.

A week later, they email a letter to me to asking for permission to access my medical records and I give them permission. They also schedule a time for a nurse to come to my house for labs.

Last Thursday, the nurse arrives and I give her a blood and urine sample. She also takes my blood pressure and said it was excellent.

Today (Tuesday), I get a letter in the mail with a refund check for my initial $28 payment. I call prudential to ask the status of my policy, the rep says “oh I can’t see anything on my end, you will need to call your agent”.

I immediately thought “omg maybe I have HIV and they won’t give me a policy”. I take one of my home HIV tests and I’m still negative.

It’s after business hours and I can’t reach my agent until tomorrow. My question is do you think I was refused coverage or is there something else going on?

Another caveat, my labs were done Thursday morning, Monday was a holiday (Columbus day), and I get the refund check today (Tuesday). That timeline makes me think the refund check was already in the process of being sent while I was getting my labs done.
