Quote Advice – Banner, Pacific Life should I seek out anything on my own?

Just looking for some advice and perspective on my situation. I’m 51 – in very good health now but definitely wasn’t a couple of years ago. I’m 6’0” – 225. At my heaviest I weighed 357. The majority of this weight was lost more 12 to 18 months ago and I’ve kept it off. I’m also a highly controlled Type 2 Diabetic. A1C of 4.9 for over a year. I also very mild left ventricular hypertrophy that shows in an echocardiogram.

I’m working with an agent and currently best case scenario is a Banner policy offering me Table 4 that would cost me about $3075 annually. The only option he has told me that might be able to beat that is Prudential if they were willing to offer me Table 2 and we are going through the application process and waiting to hear back from them. Just frustrating because even though I know historically I always wasn’t this way but I am in very good health and these rates are sky high.

Any options or advice you have that I can do on my own? I’m a member of USAA. Is it worth putting an application in with them? Does anybody know if their rates are competitive or are there any other programs like USAA that are worth quoting outside the realm of using an agent (getting quote on my own)?
