Questions about Math behind Life Insurance

Really needing advice – my wife has never had life insurance (only through work) and about 2 years ago had a brain tumor with radiation/chemo afterwards. Her insurance with work (basic and no supplement) was $179,000. We now get stonewalled anytime we try to get insurance for her but she did just change jobs and now we have an option to port her life insurance. The annual payment on it would be $2,700 a year for the $179,000 policy. Everyone I asks says “that’s way too expensive”. I’m thinking about doing it anyways. Her prognosis has a 10 year average life expectancy although those numbers are improving. Am I crazy for wanting to pay the $2.7k a year? We do have savings I can use to pay it every year, so it’s not exactly a big lift. She will not be approved for anything but this. I’ve already tried several times to get her term insurance and no one will even consider her until 6 years post surgery, which we are a ways from. We have two small kids so any support would be helpful if my wife passed.
