Policy for rec cannabis user — edibles only

Hello,

I currently have a $1M policy with 19 years left and a $300k policy with about 14 years left. I’m looking to add more life insurance (in the $1M to $2M range). However, I recently started using cannabis edibles recreationally (they are legal in my state) but it appears that most (all?) life insurance companies immediately put me into the smoker’s category of pricing.

I am in good health otherwise. Preferred Plus rate on my 2 policies that I got before the cannabis started.

Is there a way to get preferred plus even with rec cannabis usage, edibles only? I’ve heard it recommended to lie since I don’t ever smoke it. But I’m concerned that if I were to die and it was discovered that I lied on the app, all coverage would be forfeit, and I don’t want to risk that. It defeats the whole purpose of getting the insurance. I need to feel that I can trust that it’s going to come through, so I want to be truthful.

I’m actually considering quitting all cannabis and reapplying in a year over this. It’s $1000-$1500 cost difference per year. Can anyone provide help, knowledge, or experience on this topic? Thanks!
