Old Policy Hunt….Crown Life–>Canada Life–>Protective Life

Last year, I lost my husband. As you can imagine, it’s been a tough journey navigating life without him. In January, while sorting through his files, I found a handwritten document indicating he had four life insurance policies at some point. Up until that moment, I was only aware of two, which I had already successfully filed claims on.

Feeling overwhelmed by everything life was throwing at me, I drafted a letter to Protective. I faxed and mailed it, hoping for a swift resolution. However, when I recently re-read that letter, I realized my grief might have made my tone seem rude and pushy. In fact I cringe that I took the step to call the insurance commission first and then spoke in that tone but it is what it is at this point. :-/ I’m wondering if that’s why I never received a response from Protective. Here is a link to that letter which also contains a picture of the handwritten document in my husband’s files.

A month or so ago, I decided to try calling Protective. Unfortunately, I was transferred from person to person, each one unable to provide the information I needed. After what felt like an endless cycle, I finally gave up and hung up the phone.

The policies I'm trying to get information on are likely between 25 to 40 years old. Does anyone have any suggestions on how I can get some solid answers regarding these two unknown policies?
