Principal Financial has picked a New York Life Insurance Co, executive who worked as a criminal prosecutor in New York to be its new general counsel.
The Des Moines, Iowa-based life insurer has picked Natalie Lamarque to take over for Mark Lagomarcino.
Lagomarcino is is retiring after 20 years with Principal.
Lamarque began working for New York Life in 2014, and she became its general counsel in 2020.
She started out in law in 2002, as a law clerk to a judge in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of North Carolina. She then clerked for Judge Ann Claire Williams, at the 7th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals.
She began a three-year stint as an associate at Debevoise & Plimpton in 2004.
After that, she spent seven years as an assistant U.S. attorney in the criminal division in the Southern District of New York. She prosecuted domestic and international organized crime cases.
She has bachelor’s degree and a law degree from Duke University.
She is the secretary and treasurer of the Life Insurance Council of New York. She also serves on the board of the Partnership for New York City and on the advisory boards of the New York University Program on Corporate Compliance and Enforcement and of the New York State Department of Financial Services.

USAA Life Insurance Co. — an arm of San Antonio-based USAA — has hired Chris Flint to be senior vice president and general manager, life and health insurance.
Flint was previously the president and CEO of Farmers New World Life.
He also served for almost three years on the FINRA board.
Earlier, Flint spent about 10 years in branch office development at Securities America Financial Corp., nine years in advisor recruitment and management at Lincoln Financial, and five years as the head of Protective Life’s ProEquities independent broker-dealer.
He has a bachelor’s degree in psychology from the University of Alabama at Birmingham, a master’s degree in business from Creighton University, and a master’s degree in information systems from Creighton.
He holds the chartered retirement planning counselor professional designation.

PartnerRe has named Sima Ruparelia to be chief actuarial and risk officer.
She will be responsible life reserving at the Pembroke, Bermuda-based reinsurer as well as for risk and capital and non-life reserving and pricing.
She has been the chief actuary for AIG operations in Europe, the United Kingdom and the Middle East for five years.
She has also worked as an actuary for Catlin and XL Catlin, and as a senior manager at Ernst & Young.
She has a bachelor’s degree in mathematics from Loughborough University. She is a fellow of the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries.
