The New Orleans Police Department arrested three minors in connection with a deadly carjacking where a woman was dragged to death Monday afternoon. According to police, three of the four suspects wanted were taken into custody on Tuesday. The suspects are all minors. Police Superintendent Shaun Ferguson will announce more details in a news conference at 11:30 a.m. Linda Frickey, 73, died after being carjacked in the 300 block of North Scott in Mid-City. NOPD officials said the four suspects took her vehicle, speeding off while she was still attached to the vehicle. Neighbors said she was still partially in her seatbelt.”It is disgusting. You have a 73-year-old woman just at her job. Putting things in the car. They dragged her. No forethought. Dismembered her. Why? She was just a good person,” said Kathy Richard, Linda’s sister-in-law. NOPD released video of the suspects late Monday night. “She would have helped anyone off the streets. She would have given them the car if they would have just given her the chance to step away,” Richard said.Frickey was dragged more than a block before being dislodged from the car, her arm severed during the incident. Neighbors helplessly tried to stop the vehicle. Todd Ecker from Mid-City said, “I got out of my vehicle screaming, ‘Stop, stop. You are dragging someone.’ He took off with the vehicle, still dragging her. Reckless. No care for human beings at all.”Family members said Frickey was leaving her job at Security Plan Insurance where she sold life insurance when it happened. “She was coming out of her office building putting something in her car,” Richard said. “She got tangled in her seatbelt because they did not give her time to get out.” Frickey’s sister Jenny Griffin called her kind, saying she will be missed.”She was just the kindest. The best person,” Griffin said. “It is a hole in all of our lives that we will never get back. She will be deeply missed. That is all I can say.”Now instead of welcoming their sister home from a day of work, they are grieving her tragic death. “It is disgusting. When is it going to stop? That is what they target? Old ladies. It is cowardly. It’s evil. The parents need to be held accountable,” said Griffin. Family members said Frickey was married with children. She was one of seven kids including five sisters with at least three grandchildren.Orleans Parish District Attorney Jason Williams issued the following statement regarding the carjacking: “What occurred to 73-year-old Linda Frickey was heinous and unthinkable. I can’t help, but think of my own mother and other elders in our community. “While we will allow the NOPD to complete a thorough investigation, any and all persons that the evidence shows participated in the murder of this elder will be prosecuted to the absolute fullest extent of the law. “I am also renewing my call to the mayor and city council to immediately approve the disbursement of COVID-19 federal funds already at City Hall which were requested by the DA’s Office, along with other law enforcement and nonprofits three months ago at the start of this crime surge. “These requests were made to effectively meet the challenge of this current crisis. I will ensure we do our part to fully prosecute anyone that the evidence shows was responsible for this and other horrific violent acts, but we need more resources to deal with this unique surge. We cannot delay deploying these funds sent to our city for this very purpose while the public is being preyed upon.”
