Need help understanding, ELI5 please
My dad passed away in August unexpectedly from a heart attack. I moved shortly after and have just had a lot going on. I finally got to opening some mail from a month or 2 ago.
One of these was a policy my grandmother had taken out on my dad, or that’s my understanding of it? I was mailed documents to fill out along with a death certificate, which I emailed. When I spoke to them on the phone they were unable to tell me the value of this policy, and I had no idea it existed. It is though MetLife, does anyone have an idea of how these work or what the average value is? For reference I’m 32, my paternal grandma passed when I was 3 or so, and paternal grandfather when I was 17. So I’m not sure how these work considering if they were paying in they had passed. I’m VERY confused.
Additionally I received, or well he received that I opened, mail from another agency (Franklin Madison) for a 50 k life insurance policy he had for himself. For accidental death and dismemberment. He had a heart attack so I’m thinking that it isn’t covered? He also received notice in September since they hadn’t received his payment they were terminating it? However, he passed in August. I did email them, but didn’t want to call as I’m not sure if there is anything there or if the policy is voided since he didn’t pay August or September (obviously).
Any help understanding any of this would be great. I’m on my own, my mom also passed in 2021, and I have no siblings on my dad’s side anyway. I just feel like I won’t hear back any time soon from these companies and I’m anxious about what to expect.
