Hi there. I need some help navigating life insurance. I'm not proud of this, I grew up poor and didn't have any financial guidance growing up, so I'm rather stupid when it comes to stuff like this.

I'll be 49 this year. Never married, never had children. Most of my family has passed on. I do have a life partner and would like to look into life insurance for myself in order to leave him something if I'm the first one to pass on. My partner is 52, and I am the beneficiary of his, so I want to make things equal.

All of this is so intimidating, and I should have done this a long time ago, but I never considered I'd be where I am in my life now. I have a decent paying job, offers 401, but not life insurance.

Does anyone have any advice on where to start? What is a reputable company to turn to? I want my loved one taken care of (I'm healthy btw, never smoked, don't do drugs, light drinker) but I'm afraid I'm too old for a decent policy.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for your time.
