Life Insurance “Smokers Rate”

I spoke with an insurance agent last week. I was interested in term but of course he is trying to sell me on whole life. I had some concerns about smoking that I brought up. I take edibles quite regularly. His initial response was that I’d have to take the smokers rate, as currently all of that counts as smoking. He took notes to verify with someone and called me back a day later. He said basically if it’s 1-2 edibles a week, I wouldn’t have to do the smokers rate. Now…that doesn’t really matter because I’m well over that but it brought up questions. 1) has anyone heard this rule of thumb about edibles? 2) how would any medical examiner tell the difference between edibles/smoking. I feel like thc is either in your system or not…and that’s what they will go by. And how would they determine how many someone took weekly?

My biggest fear is paying all this money for a policy and then them not paying out based on this. It’s just too risky. The smokers policy was like 200.00 more. Of course I’m not going to sign up for the policy due to these reservations…just would like input from others. Has anyone heard of anyone being denied a payout due to smoking?
