I am in the incontestable period of a life insurance policy which I LIED on….

First off, we are all adults here and I'm well aware of what a huge no-no I perpetrated by lying on a life insurance application. My only excuse is that I was younger and not in a good place (mentally or financially). Still, feel free to brow-beat me anyway.

I am in year 9 of a life insurance policy (term) for which I did not disclose that I was a former smoker nor that i have a hereditary condition which predisposes me to certain life-threatening diseases. I know, what was I thinking? Anyway, fast forward to today – I was recently diagnosed with cancer which has been linked to that hereditary condition, but no link to smokers (current or past) .

I am now wondering about my family being paid out in the event I'm no longer around. My states life insurance law explicitly states that a policy can't be contested after the contestable period (2 years). I'm reasonably certain my misrepresentations can't be "exposed" at this point unless a claim were investigated. In other words, there's no obvious fraud to be seen here w/o some digging. If an investigation were to occur, however, I'm certain that my medical records would reveal my skeletons and my family would be denied. My understanding/hope is that my fraud can't be uncovered unless a claim were contested, which in this case, at 9 years & counting, it cannot.

Ethics & morals aside, am I right?
