Estranged Parent, Waiver of Premium, and a terminated policy

I'm in a weird situation and would really appreciate any insight and advice on how best to proceed. I've been estranged from my father for about 8 years (since 2016) and he passed away last month. Before we stopped speaking to each other, he had given me a Waiver of Premium claim letter with details on a life insurance policy he had through his employment before going on disability, stating I was his beneficiary.

The policy is with AIG/Corebridge and was for basic and supplemental coverage. He was approved for a waiver of premium due to total disability (major depression, ptsd) and would be contacted annually with a request for proof of disability. The policy would remain in effect until age 65, where he would then be given the option of converting to a whole life policy. My father was 63 when he passed.

I reached out to AIG/Corebridge to file a claim and was told the policy was terminated in 2017 due to my father not replying to the proof of disability request. Around that same time in 2017, my father was in bankruptcy court and his house was foreclosed on. I can't confirm if he actually received the requests from AIG/Corebridge during that time, but AIG/Corebridge claims nothing was sent back to the post office.

I guess my question here is if there is any way to reinstate the policy even though it's been 7 years since termination? My father was absolutely disabled, did not work, and was in financial ruin these past 8 years before his death. He couldn't take care of himself or his financial affairs, almost entirely due to his crippling mental illness.
