Denied for term policy due to alcoholism diagnosis. Will I be denied from here on out?
I’m still in disbelief. I had a physical in 2021 leading up to a vasectomy. My blood test showed a fatty liver, or elevated liver enzymes. So I had a candid conversation with my Dr about diet and alcohol. I said accurately, that I have 10-12 drinks a week, and it’s more likely on the weekend as nobody waits to work hungover. However there are parts of the year where I go several months without any alcohol. He never used the term alcoholism, he never said I was being diagnosed with alcoholism, yet he did diagnose me with alcoholism. He’s also never mentioned it in subsequent visits in the following two years. I found this out today when I was declined for a term policy. I reviewed the notes and records and he listed it. I’ve since improved the liver enzymes so no issue any longer. Also, blood pressure is good, cholesterol is good. I know insurance companies have a database to record that I’ve been declined. Does this mean I’m going to be declined by everyone?
The thing that blew me away was when the rep said “even if your doctor corrects the record to indicate you are not dependent on alcohol, we cannot insure you”
Am I doomed when it comes to trying to find term coverage?
