Dad died, insurance said he had accidental rather than full life.

As the title says, when my dad died of small cell lung cancer a few months ago, my mom called the insurance company they got their life insurance from (Trans-America Stonebridge). They had been paying on this policy for 30+ years.

My parents, and especially my dad, would NEVER make the mistake of only getting accidental life insurance and not whole life insurance. My mom doesn’t know where the original policy is, so when she called the insurance company and requested the payout, she was turned away and basically told to kick rocks.

My mom was really banking on that money to help with her living expenses since she’s retired and lost my dad’s social security check upon his death. My mom is only 65 and pretty healthy (after beating breast cancer, twice!) so she could reasonably have 20 years if not more left in her. So to think now she doesn’t get the insurance they’ve paid into for thirty plus years, quite frankly sickens me.

So I’m hoping to post this and see if this has happened to anyone else? My mom can’t sue since she doesn’t have any proof, but if this has happened to others, it could potentially turn into a class action. Granted I’m not an attorney, so I’m not entirely sure of the legalese.

Tl;dr : my parents bought whole life insurance in the early 90’s, original paperwork was lost, my dad dies a few months ago, insurance company tells my mom they purchased accidental life insurance rather than whole life insurance, and thus my mom is entitled to no compensation whatsoever due to the slimy tactics of Trans-America Stonebridge.
