Claim questions
Hi everyone. So my MIL recently passed and my husband (only child) and I found she had life insurance for 25k. It was also discovered that a cousin of his is also listed as beneficiary so my husband would get 50% of the 25k. We were sent the claim forms, which we have filled out but have been trying to get the dr to fill out the medical section for weeks with no luck. How do I get this section filled out by the dr in attendance? The forms also ask for the death certificate, which i won't be able to get for months due to a 12 week wait for the death to be registered followed by an additional wait time for the certificate to be mailed out. Do most life insurance companies accept the proof of death instead? Is there anyway to speed up the process as we owe funeral costs and her estate has no money which is why we didn't have to go through probate. Finally, are we responsible for informing the cousin that this policy exists and she is a beneficiary? My husband is not on good terms with this cousin due to her neglect and manipulation of his mother.
