Hello, not sure if this is the right sub for this but looking for any advice.

Most recently, I've been going through a ton of mail that belonged to my father who passed away when I was 15 in 2016.

I found a mail stating I was under his life insurance policy and was supposed to receive a $28k check when I turned 18 years old to claim it.

I never received the check but believed it was already cashed. I plan to call the life insurance company later today, but I'm looking for advice. After my father passed we had a bunch of extended family members live with us to help raise me and my siblings cause my mother was suicidal during her grieving period.

Im definitely going to file a police report, but wanted to know if it's possible for the insurance company to reissue me a check although someone fraudulently cashed it in 2019 when I turned 18. Or do I just take an L for having fraud family members.

Thank you in advance.
