Can You Get Life Insurance with a Breast Lump / Cyst?
Complete this questionnaire and I’ll send you a quote taking your breast lump into account
Will a Breast Cyst Stop Me Getting Mortgage Protection?
Don’t worry.
Breast cysts and abnormal smears are the most common female medical issues we get asked about.
The good news is that it’s possible to get cover at the normal price (i.e. no increase in your premium)
But be careful which insurer you apply to!
Each insurer has different rules regarding underwriting applications for life insurance with a benign breast lump.
So if you don’t know what you’re doing, you could apply to the wrong insurer and end up paying silly money for your cover.
What factors affect life insurance if you have a breast lump?
There are two main factors that underwriting will examine:
Was your breast lump or cyst benign (non-cancerous) or malignant (cancerous)?
If malignant, to what degree has it spread (here we examine life insurance cover after cancer)
Breast cysts are generally benign so they won’t affect the cost of your life insurance premiums.
What information will the insurer need if you have a breast lump or cyst?
If you’re applying for life insurance, you’ll need to complete a questionnaire.
For serious illness cover and income protection, the insurer will request a medical report from your GP.
How much does life insurance with a breast cyst cost?
For a straightforward benign breast lump, you’ll pay the same price as everyone else.
You can get an indicative life insurance quote here
If the lump is malignant, I’d need to know the exact staging and grading before I could help.
Even better, if you can get me a copy of your Histology Report, I can discuss the results with my insurers anonymously to get you a steer.
What if I have a follow-up exam or mammogram scheduled?
In this case, the insurer will postpone consider cover until the follow up is complete and the results are available.
Can I get serious illness cover after having a breast lump removed?
Yes, if the lump was benign, although you will pay extra, or the insurer may exclude breast cancer as a claimable illness on your policy.
What about income protection after breast surgery?
You’ll get the normal price for a simple cyst that was surgically removed and confirmed as benign.
