34M. A CA-based top insurer first rejected then offered me with 3x the initial quote for a 30-year $1mil policy. I used policy genius and the process has been horrible. I am still looking to buy and needing some advice.

I believe I am healthier than average. I am on low dose statin to control cholesterol that runs from my mom; I had flexible sigmoidoscopy and colonoscopy last year (these are preventive). My current BMI is around 26. My recent blood work in Oct’24 shows almost all metrics are in normal range. I also run and cycle regularly but underwriting did not check my Strava (lol).

During underwriting, the insurer requested my medical records from my primary and specialist (for the colonoscopy), but somehow the underwriter rejected my application for high blood pressure, procedure that was past due (which is none so they offered me the policy with much higher price after I explained to them), and former smoker. I mentioned to my primary that I had cigarettes at parties while at college. Somehow this is passed to the underwriter but not my near-perfect blood work.

Should I keep trying with policy genius or find an agent (how)? I am willing to spend <$100 per month for this policy. With me in statin and the colonoscopy (I still don’t understand why a preventive procedure is playing negatively here), am I considered to be a risk for insurer? I requested to have the former smoker status removed from MyChart. Is there a better application process than what I have been thru? Particularly on the medical records part. I had to sign by hand many authorization forms to release my records but the underwriter still reads shit.
