AD&D policy pre-claim homework help.

My late FIL had an accidental death and dismemberment policy from Tru-Stage. I have read through several posts here from others that have this type of insurance as well and have seen some issues that I perceive to be common with this type of policy. I’m hoping to do any homework I can ahead of time and possibly get some of the paperwork ready. Maybe. I want to make sure that I’m not wasting time, and am hoping for some advice from some of you.

69 year old FIL fell at home and was admitted to the local ER. He was then transferred to a regional ER that could set his leg and do a surgery (pins, rods, screws) as his leg was broken badly.

After said surgery he was admitted to the ICU as he had some blood pressure issues, previous heart problems, etc. he passed away there ~20 days after he was admitted.

His death certificate states cause of death: blunt force impacts to the leg with tibia and fibular fractures.

Manner of death: accident.

Describe how injury occurred: fall at home

Other significant conditions contributing to death: atrial fibrillation, cardiovascular disease, diabetes, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.

I feel pretty jaded and skeptical after reading from some others that have had many denials and requests for more info from their insurance companies with their AD&D policies, and am sure that I will also be asked to submit more or flatly denied, but would be nice if I’m wrong.

Should I request a toxicology report and autopsy report before I begin a claim, or should I just get the ball rolling and file and see what request they come back with? Thanks for any help you can give.
