It goes without saying that if you like cars, you have a favorite automaker. No one falls in love with the general concept of the automobile. Driving is a highly subjective experience, with no individual having the same set of preferred sights and sounds while behind the wheel. Typically, most enthusiasts gravitate toward a favorite early on and stick to that company until something catastrophic happens — sorry, defunct GM brands.

What’s your favorite automaker and why? The why is the crucial element. We don’t care how irrational the reasoning is. You could have gone to your middle school’s book fair, came home with a poster because the car on it looked cool, and then that car’s manufacturer became your favorite.

My fondness for Cadillac has waned over the years, but it was built on fond memories and cars I thought looked cool. My mom drove a Cadillac STS when I was growing up, around the same time the Cadillac Northstar LMP raced at Le Mans in the early 2000s. After Cadillac pulled the plug on its floundering prototype program, I gravitated toward the CTS-VRs racing in Speed World Challenge. I liked the big, flat panels and angular shapes. Cadillac’s sedans looked like a stealth fighters. Don’t judge me.

Please don’t hesitate to share why you love your favorite automaker in the comments below.
