Aren’t concept cars cool? Every Monterey car week we get a flood of them, every manufacturer trying its hardest to come up with the coolest, most attention-grabbing thing imaginable. Today, though, we’re not here to talk about any of those good concepts. We’re here to talk about the ones that suck shit.
There’s No Vehicle More American Than The Humvee
Sometimes, an automaker puts out a concept car that’s just plain bad. Whether a car is too ostentatious, too absurd, or simply not different enough from the models on the showroom floor, some concepts just don’t hit the mark. Today, we ask you, what’s the worst concept car of all time?
For my pick, the worst concept is something that’s too big, too claustrophobic, too dated, and too dull-looking. In other words, it’s the Dodge Super 8 Hemi, the concept that presaged the sixth-generation Charger. It’s a bad car.
Why are the doorsills so high? Why is the windshield so short? I get that it’s aping some sort of chop-top coupe look, but the proportions simply do not work. Look at the man in the driver’s seat, does he look happy to be there? Does the kid in back look like he can even see out that window?
For my pick, the worst concept car is the Super 8 Hemi. That’s just my pick, though — what’s yours? Leave your answer below, and we’ll collect our favorites later in the week.
