What's The Worst Car Tuner Fad?

Car tuners like Mansory, Callaway, Singer and Hennessey Performance are probably not fond of being known simply as tuners. It’s likely these aftermarket shops would rather be known as “coachbuilders,” or maybe as unofficial skunk works for the companies that make the cars they modify. Anything to put themselves on par with carmakers, which I may be willing to do if it weren’t for some of the awful modifications tuners make.

From paint wraps that flatten the looks of what ought to be the most colorful vehicles to body kits that make supercars look like zig-zaggy abominations, tuners like Mansory are guilty of the gaudiest mods. Other companies like Hennessey are not content with aerodynamic changes nor simple performance upgrades.

Hennessey stacks on extra axles and cheesy names, such as the “VelociRaptoR 6×6″ to machines that are already impressive in their own right. Does the Ford F-150 Raptor R need anything else to be more impressive? No. And yet Hennessey soldiers on as if it took the phrase “go big or go home” personally. I don’t know whether to weep or cheer. Actually, I do know.

But I’ll let you readers make that call and add your own grievances over the worst tuner cars. Tell us in the comments below what you think are the worst fads that car tuners chase?
