The sun is about to rise on a new year. While it’s the perfect opportunity to look ahead to shiny new cars and fun projects, we should also take a moment to reflect on the things that we are glad to be leaving behind in 2024. There are projects housed in countless garages that are going nowhere for one reason or another that enthusiasts can’t wait to rid themselves of.

What nightmare car projects did you ditch this year? Did you attempt to craft custom components for a pickup truck? Did you buy an incomplete car and struggle to find the parts to get it running? Was the sheer amount of work needed to get a derelict sedan to even roll out of a garage just beyond your aptitude? Sometimes the juice isn’t worth the squeeze and giving up is the best option despite the sunk costs.
Finding a way to recoup costs is typically the first thought after a project stalls. I hope I’m not the first person to say that you shouldn’t try and scam anyone on Facebook Marketplace to make back a couple thousand dollars. Also, don’t try and fabricate an accident for insurance money. Despite recent events involving health insurance executives, an innocent driver is typically the victim of car insurance scams. Take your setback in stride. It isn’t worth the fines and potential jail time.
Please don’t hesitate to share your abandoned car project in the comment section below.
