What New Car Just Isn’t Worth The Money?

Right now, the average new car price in the U.S. is approaching $50,000. That’s before taxes, insurance, interest on your payments — it’s all just too much. What’re you even getting for all that money now?

Cars are too expensive. Some cars, though, are even more egregious than the average — outliers on what you get for your money, and not in a good way. In this world of high-dollar transactions, what cars stand out as the worst deals for your money?

My pick, out of the new-car market, is the Subaru Solterra. The car starts at $45,000, and it just doesn’t offer anything special for that kind of price point. There’s nothing bad about it, but it doesn’t even offer the Kia EV6’s fun little acceleration sounds — and that’s a car that costs thousands less.

The Solterra isn’t bad, it’s just not worth the money. But it’s certainly not the only car on the market with an MSRP that doesn’t match what it’s offering? Out of every car currently on the market, which one do you think is just not worth what it costs?

The whole history of the automotive world is available to you. Do you think multi-million-dollar one-of-one Rolls are simply too gauche for their asking price, or do you think the humble used Nissan Versa is just not the best place your $3,000 could go? Do you have personal beef with the Sultan of Brunei’s accountant, and think those cars were a horrible waste of funds? Leave your picks in the comments below, and we’ll collect our favorites later in the week. Bonus points for including the original MSRP.
