When you’re a teen, your brain doesn’t always work as well as say, a fully grown adult. You’re more prone to taking risks and reacting emotionally, and yet, we give these half-formed humans the keys to multi-ton vehicles and say, have fun!

Obviously this leads to destruction and death at worst, or some really good stories to tell years later at best. On in particular that comes to my mind of when my parents moved us from Detroit to the suburbs. We met some well-heeled kids, including one who’s dad owned a Cadillac dealership.

This 16-year-old kid was rolling around in a first-generation Escalade. It just so happens that around this area a lot of farm land was transitioning into suburban housing. And that’s how we ended up “off-roading” in a Escalade. Now, this is not a vehicle made from climbing up and down 15-foot high sandy dunes, but we spent an afternoon doing just that and some crazy how managed to not roll or even strand the damn thing.

I look back now and wonder what the hell I was thinking, but I wasn’t thinking. I was a kid. The driver was a kid. We were all too dumb to be scared. It just happens that we were kids with a 2000 Cadillac Escalade. It could of ended in absolute disaster, but it didn’t and we’re all still kicking to this day.

What about you? What were the close calls of your youthful indiscretions?
