What Car Is, Shockingly, Still Alive?
Admit it. You have no idea what year this Chevrolet Malibu is.Photo: Chevrolet
Volkswagen recently announced that even though it had initially planned to build the Arteon through the 2024 model year, it would actually end production early. On the one hand, that’s disappointing news because we actually generally liked the Arteon. On the other hand, though, after delays bringing the Arteon to market and then the subsequent slow sales numbers, it kind of felt like it was at least half-canceled the entire time it was on sale.
Is the Dodge Magnum the Last Cool Wagon?
Unfortunately, the Arteon isn’t the only car we’ve ever had to be reminded hadn’t actually been canceled yet. For example, did you know the Chevrolet Malibu is still in production? That’s a fact we remember every couple of months for a few hours before promptly forgetting it entirely, but yes, you can still buy a brand new Chevrolet Malibu in the year 2024.
Back when it was freshly redesigned, the Malibu wasn’t really that bad. That was back in 2016. Eight years ago. Even the mid-cycle refresh was five years ago. Considering the declining interest in sedans that we’ve seen over the last several years and the number of automakers who have largely abandoned the sedan in the U.S., we definitely understand why Chevrolet would have a hard time justifying a new Malibu. At the same time, though, are sales really strong enough to keep the current Malibu around? Really?
The Chevrolet Malibu can’t be the only new car that’s somehow still in production even though you would have guessed it had been canceled years ago, though. What car can you still not believe hasn’t been canceled yet? What car somehow refuses to die? Let us know down in the comments below.
