Walsh, Santiago Join Healey Cabinet

Walsh Santiago Join Healey CabinetGovernor Healey and her cabinet

As Gov. Maura Healey and Lt. Gov. Kim Driscoll took to the lectern in the press room Wednesday to introduce their first major volley of state policy, 11 people took took places on their flanks — fanning out to present the new administration’s now-assembled Cabinet.

“We’re standing here with our team. It is very intentional because nothing gets done without our team,” Healey said as she opened a press conference to roll out her first state budget, a tax relief and reform package, and a state government reorganization bill. “And that is the way it has been in the early days of this administration. It is the way it will be going forward.”

The governor introduced the roster around her and closed with Health and Human Services Secretary Kate Walsh and Veterans’ Services Secretary Jon Santiago, adding “both freshly sworn in today.” The governor’s office said the last two secretaries to take their places in the Cabinet were sworn in Wednesday by “qualified commissioners” and will have a ceremonial swearing-in with the governor Friday morning.

Though her Cabinet is complete for now, Healey also filed legislation this week to add a new “secretary of housing and livable communities” to the state government architecture.
