The Hummer EV pickup debuts in loaded Edition 1 guise at a starting price of $110,395. Less powerful models, as well as SUV variants, are set to follow.
The Edition 1 employs three electric motors (one on the front axle, two in back) that together produce 1000 horsepower and 1200 pound-feet of torque.
The Hummer EV’s massive battery pack is a stressed member of the chassis and has 212.7 kWh of usable capacity. Stripped of its decorative tonnage, the pack alone weighs 2923 pounds.
Activating the Hummer EV’s eyeroll-inducing Watts to Freedom launch mode results in a 60-mph sprint in about three seconds—not bad for a truck that weighs a crushing 9000 pounds.
GM estimates that the Edition 1 model will go 329 miles on a charge.
Along with allowing the Hummer EV to perform its unique Crabwalk dance, the truck’s ability to turn its rear wheels up to 10 degrees makes it impressively maneuverable in tight quarters.
The Edition 1’s standard adjustable air springs and adaptive dampers provide a pleasantly smooth ride and up to 15.9 inches of ground clearance.
Eighteen cameras dot the Hummer EV’s exterior, including its underbelly, providing its pilot with immersive views of its surroundings.
The Hummer EV’s 13.4-inch center touchscreen employs video-game-style graphics to intuitively present a seemingly endless amount of vehicle settings and information.
The Hummer EV’s cabin is spacious and attractive, though some cheaper-feeling plastics are visible.
