The Ford F-150 Lightning turns America’s bestselling vehicle into an EV.
The F-150 Lightning looks much like internal-combustion-powered F-150s, with the mostly closed-off grille and resculpted hood being the chief visual differences
Under that hood is a frunk that can carry up to 400 pounds.
Between the frame rails resides one of two battery packs: 98.0 kWh or 131.0 kWh.
The smaller pack delivers an EPA range of 230 miles, while the larger one is good for 320 miles (or 300 miles in the top-spec Platinum trim).
Either pack drives two motors that power all four wheels.
The Lightning also can tow up to 10,000 pounds, but doing so dramatically reduces the range.
With the standard battery, the motors put out 452 horsepower; with the larger battery, that number is 580 horsepower.
Prices start at $41,769, but that’s for a vinyl-seat Pro model. Most buyers will start at the XLT trim—add the bigger battery and required equipment, and that one is $74,269.
Ford claims to have 200,000 reservations for the F-150 Lightning.
