The 2022 BMW X4 M Competition’s twin-turbo 3.0-liter inline-six maintains the same 503-hp rating as before.
Torque, however, swells by 37 pound-feet for a total of 479.
Even the lesser BMW X4 M benefits from a 15-lb-ft torque bump for 2022.
The extra grunt helps the X4 M Competition get to 60 mph in a snappy 3.2 seconds.
It also affords the model a 0.2-second-quicker sprint from 5-to-60-mph and 30-to-50-mph jaunts, turning in times of 4.4 and 2.5 seconds, respectively.
The combination of its 0.4-inch-slimmer headlights, reworked front and rear fascias with gloss-black finishes, and a less porcine kidney-grille design make the X4 M look far less awkward for 2022.
We still prefer the more graceful-looking X3 M, which offers an additional 5.0 cubic feet of cargo space, courtesy of its squarer rear end.
Interior revisions include a revised dashboard with a 12.3-inch touchscreen display—2.0 inches larger than the prior unit—running BMW’s latest iDrive infotainment setup and a 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster with a revamped user interface.
Other changes include new climate controls and an updated center console that houses the start/stop button and various drive-mode-related controls.
BMW calls the hue on our X4 M Competition test vehicle Sao Paulo Yellow.
